The Westfield Community Golf and Tennis Invitational generated an $82,000 grant which was donated to Camp Breakaway, the local charity partner for Westfield Tuggerah, on New South Wales' Central Coast.
The grant was used to host weekend recreation and respite camps for kids with autism at separate camps for 7-12 year-olds and 13-16 year-olds.
The camps' activities were created for specific age groups attending and were designed to encourage kids to develop skills in a fun, safe and supported environment. They also provided an opportunity to develop effective communication skills and peer relationships in a social group setting.
Camp Breakaway’s camps also offered a weekend of much needed respite for families, particularly with the younger childrens’ camp where whole families including parents and siblings stayed on site together.
