In an industry first, Scentre Group has worked closely with the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage to deliver voluntary energy and water efficiency NABERS ratings across the majority of its Australian portfolio of assets.
For the first time, all centres have been rated with joint venture assets being rated for their second year running. Our portfolio average is 3.4 stars (3.5 is the retail industry average).
Joint venture owned assets improved by half a star from 3.32 in 2014 to 3.81 in 2015. The strong result for jointly owned assets reflects an estimated 11% energy reduction – 87 MWh – the equivalent annual energy consumption of 15 Australian average households*.
2015 ratings will become the Group's performance baseline, informing future energy management strategies across the portfolio. A number of energy audits conducted during the year alongside our NABERS ratings will identify additional opportunities for improvement.
